HINAVA FOOD TRADITION TRIBAL
TRIBE OF SABAH DUSUN
Hinava is
one of the traditional Sabah food. It is a traditional food for the Kadazan
Dusun tribe of Sabah and among the most popular foods for this tribe.
Usually
Hinava or also called Hinava Ginapan is made from fresh fish. Fill fish
commonly used to make Hinava is from the content of shark or mackerel. However,
other fish can also be used to make this Hinava including squid or shrimp.
In Malay
Malay cuisine Hinava means the content of fish that is raw and cooked only
using the acid and other ingredients of the other ingredients. The fish is
selected including the so-called mackerel and shark fish.
Hinava is
usually served for weddings as well as a special meal for the Kadazan-Dusun
people during Tadau Kaamatan.
The
ingredients used to make Hinava are as follows:

Fresh fish
fill

Red pepper
•
Ginger
•
Red onion
•
Lime or
lemon musk
•
Salt
To serve the
contents of the fresh fish will be mixed using the above ingredients and
stirred. The contents of the fish do not need to be cooked as they will be
cooked through thin lime or lemon juice
